Paul Breuer and David Earp met back 20 years ago at Portobello Road market, both specializing in vintage clothing. They occupied stalls close to each other at the weekends until 1998 when David left for India to start his project Shuktara. Shuktara now has two homes in Calcutta for children and young people with disabilities, who have no families to care for them.
About seven years ago David started to use his expertise in textiles to design throws and blankets using vintage cottons, to help raise money for the charity (see www.shuktara.net).
On trips back to the UK when David visited Portobello he would obviously hook up with Paul, who had a keen interest in what was happening in Calcutta and so when Breuer & Dawson was born it seemed a perfect combination and a great opportunity for David to design a line of blankets exclusively for Margate.
David visited us recently, the sun shone and we were all able to catch up, talk about textiles and our mutual love of vintage and what we do next.
